From Mechanical Dewatering to Deep Dewatering: What Challenges Remain in Further Sludge Reduction?
Sludge dewatering may seem as simple as “removing water,” but as the moisture content decreases, the remaining water becomes increasingly difficult to remove. Recently, a research team from Dalian University of Technology explored a new approach to this long-standing challenge by using the phase...Read more -
From Sludge to Sludge Cake: What Does a Complete Sludge Treatment System Need?
In 2026, some wastewater treatment projects in the United States are exploring ways to move sludge management beyond the boundaries of individual treatment plants and towards more integrated, regional systems. For example, Clinton, New York, is planning a regional biosolids processing centre to h...Read more -
From Dewatering to Resource Recovery: What Is Changing in Sludge Treatment Equipment?
A notable change is becoming increasingly visible at environmental and water treatment exhibitions this year. The Environmental Services & Solutions Expo (ESS Expo), held recently in Birmingham, UK, brought together companies and technologies from across the environmental sector, including wa...Read more -
Sludge Thickening vs. Dewatering: Why Shouldn’t They Be Treated as the Same Process?
In sludge treatment systems, sludge thickening and sludge dewatering are often discussed together. Both processes aim to remove water from sludge, but treating them as the same thing can lead to misunderstandings when selecting equipment and designing a treatment process. Simply put, sludge thick...Read more -
Where Does the Water in Sludge Hide? Why Is Some of It So Difficult to Remove?
Two types of sludge may have a similar moisture content of around 80%, yet produce very different dewatering results when processed using the same equipment. One may form a relatively dry sludge cake after mechanical dewatering, while the other remains difficult to dewater even when additional pr...Read more -
How Much Water Is in a Tonne of Sludge What Can Sludge Dewatering Really Save
A tonne of sludge may not sound like much. But if that sludge has a moisture content of 80%, only around 200 kg is dry solids. The remaining 800 kg is essentially water. This raises a simple but important question in sludge management: when a plant transports and disposes of a tonne of sludge, ho...Read more -
From Pollutants to Resources: What Can Be Recovered from Industrial Wastewater and Sludge?
Industrial Wastewater Is More Than Waste Traditional industrial wastewater treatment follows a straightforward principle: remove pollutants and ensure that the treated water meets discharge requirements. But there is another question worth asking: Where do the pollutants go after they are remove...Read more -
From Waste to Resource: How Sludge Management Is Driving the Future of Wastewater Treatment
For decades, sewage sludge has been considered a by-product of wastewater treatment – something that requires further treatment, transportation, and disposal. However, with growing challenges such as water scarcity, increasing energy demand, and stricter environmental regulations, the role ...Read more -
From Screw Presses to Multi-Disc Screw Presses: How One Sludge Dewatering Technology Has Evolved with the Industry
Today, multi-disc screw presses have become a common choice for sludge dewatering in municipal wastewater treatment plants and industrial wastewater projects around the world. Compared with traditional belt filter presses and centrifuges, they generally require less installation space, offer a hi...Read more -
Why Is Sludge Dewatering Necessary? Understanding Its Role in Sludge Treatment
Why Is Sludge Dewatering Necessary? Understanding Its Role in Sludge Treatment Sludge dewatering is a key stage in sludge treatment. Rather than removing all moisture, its primary purpose is to reduce the water content of sludge, making it easier and more economical to transport, store, and dispo...Read more -
Why the wastewater treatment industry is starting to refocus on “system stability”?
For a long time, the wastewater treatment industry focused primarily on equipment performance. How much sludge a dewatering unit can handle, how low the cake moisture can go, and how advanced the equipment is were often the key points in project discussions. But in recent years, the focus has bee...Read more -
Sludge Treatment Is Entering the Era of Resource Recovery
In 2022, California faced another severe drought. At the same time, some wastewater treatment plants were still transporting large volumes of high-moisture sludge every day. The contradiction became increasingly obvious: while water and energy costs continued to rise, huge amounts of water were s...Read more
